Invent it. Build it.

Invent it. Build it. Infographic

Invent it. Build it. is made possible through the generous support of the ExxonMobil Foundation

Invent it. Build it. is an experience designed to encourage girls to choose a career in engineering. This is achieved through a three-pronged approach:

  1. SWE Girls Program
  2. Parent Educator Program (PEP)
  3. EXPO

All girls registered for the SWE Girls Program will participate in a hands-on engineering experience with members of the Society of Women Engineers. While the girls are having fun building and inventing, parents and educators will learn about engineering careers, scholarships, college admission and resources.

Both groups will learn about engineering clubs, camps, after-school programs and competitions from a wide variety of exhibitors at the Invent it. Build it. EXPO. After the SWE Girls and Parent Educator Program have walked through the EXPO we will open the doors to everyone else.

The SWE Girls Program is the main event at Invent it. Build it. The girls will have the opportunity to experience the creative and innovative sides of engineering through hands-on projects alongside real engineers. The program will run from 9am-3:30pm. Participants are asked to stay for the entire program. Watch our video.

The girls will:

  • Work with SWE members from around the world on hands-on engineering activities
  • Meet real engineers and learn what they do
  • Make new friends
  • Explore the Invent it. Build it. EXPO during exclusive hours to learn about clubs, camps, competitions, and much more
  • Get an Invent it. Build it. t-shirt, bag and lots of other goodies
  • Be eligible to win raffle prizes
  • Have lunch with the SWE engineers (lunch provided)

The cost to attend is $7. Financial assistance is available upon request.

The SWE High School Girls Program is also the main event at Invent it. Build it. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the creative and innovative sides of engineering through hands-on projects alongside real engineers. The program will run from 9am-3:30pm. Participants are asked to stay for the entire program.

The students will:

  • Meet real engineers and learn what they do
  • Participate in conversations with SWE members from around the world and learn how to navigate a career in a male dominated field
  • Receive information on how to select the right college, where to find scholarships and how to be a successful engineer
  • Work on hands-on engineering activities
  • Make new friends
  • Explore the Invent it. Build it. EXPO during exclusive hours
  • Get an Invent it. Build it. t-shirt, bag and lots of other goodies
  • Be eligible to win raffle prizes
  • Have lunch with the SWE engineers (lunch provided)

The cost to attend is $7.

Parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, administrators and leaders are encouraged to participate in the PEP. The program will run from 9am – 3:30pm. Participants are asked to stay for the entire program. Watch our video.

Parents and educators will:

  • Learn about engineering careers, scholarships, college admission and resources
  • Network with SWE members as well as other parents and educators
  • Participate in a panel discussion with select SWE members and outreach experts
  • Complete a hands-on activity and learn best practices for engineering projects with girls
  • Explore the Invent it. Build it. EXPO during exclusive hours

  • Get an Invent it. Build it. t-shirt
  • Join the girls at the end of the day for show and tell, raffles and pictures

The cost to attend is $5. Financial assistance is available upon request.

The girls participating in the SWE Girls Program and those participating in the PEP will have the opportunity to walk through the EXPO during exclusive EXPO hours. For everyone else (adults and children of all ages) the EXPO will be open from 11:15am – 2:00pm.

During this time, the EXPO will be an open house and participants may come and go as they please.

Come to the EXPO to learn about:

  • Engineering clubs
  • Engineering camps
  • Competitions
  • After-school programs
  • Scholarships

…and more

Our exhibitors will have hands-on activities and lots of goodies to take home. Anyone attending the SWE Girls Program or Parent Educator Program (PEP), will walk through the EXPO during exclusive EXPO hours from 9am-10:30am. All others may attend the EXPO from 11:15am - 2:00pm.

The Invent it. Build it. EXPO serves girls, parents, educators, SWE members and the general public. We are expecting between 1500 and 2000 participants. The EXPO will run from 9:00am – 2:00pm.

Exhibitors are asked to share information about engineering clubs, camps, after-school programs, competitions, best practices and outreach grants. Exhibitors are encouraged to have a hands-on component.

Having issues with your log in? These tips should help:

  • Your website login information is the same as your SWE Member ID and password that you use to log in to the SWE Member Services Center.
  • Login information is case-sensitive so check "Caps Lock" if you receive an error message.
  • Your SWE Membership login ID is different than your Career Center login. If you are trying to login to the Career Center and are receiving an error message please make sure you are using your Career Center login. If you have forgotten that information, click on the Login link in either the "Job Seekers" or "Employers" tab and then the "Forgot Password" link to retrieve your information. If you do not have a Career Center login, you can register in the same tab.
  • If you are receiving an "Invalid Token" error, it is most likely because you may already be logged into the website in another browser window or tab. You cannot be logged into the site more than once. Check to see if you are already logged in in another window or tab. If you are still getting this error and your page has been sitting idle for a while try refreshing the page or logging in again from the main page. You may also have a clogged browser cache. All you need to do is delete your browser history.
  • Once logged in, SWE members should be able to directly access all webinar replays. Go-to meeting webinars require input of an email address.
  • To report other issues with login, please use the "Report Page" link at the bottom of this page and include the browser you are using (e.g. Firefox, Explorer) and version of that browser (indicated by a number, e.g. 1.9; 11.0). This information can be found under "Help" and "About" in the Menu Bar.
