SWE Public Policy initiatives support the Society’s mission by engaging our members in policy issues that impact the advancement of women in engineering. Our goals are to provide SWE members with timely information and tools to enhance their understanding of the issues and encourage volunteer participation at the federal level. We also aim to educate other professional societies and policy makers on how to apply Title IX to STEM fields.

FY12 Public Policy Goals SWE concentrates on the following three areas related to public policy:
Strategic planning done by the SWE Board and the Government Relations and Public Policy (GRPP) Committee concluded that SWE will focus on the three areas mentioned above and that SWE will not unnecessarily duplicate public policy efforts of the existing organizations. In Public Policy, SWE’s main goals are:
FY12 priority is to lead the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and diversity communities to engage SWE members, other professional societies and policy makers on how Title IX can be applied to STEM fields. The long term goal is to be the STEM gender equity power broker at the federal level.
