Lana Fountain Flakes, Director, Emerging Initiatives


Lana Fountain Flakes, a native of Moss Point, Miss., is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where she earned a B.S. in biomedical engineering. Her career includes 14 years of service to the NASA engineering community, and as an engineering consultant, emphasizing engineering technology reliability. She has recently embarked upon an alternate career path -- working as an independent reliability engineering contractor/consultant, while pursuing J.D./MBA candidacy.

Fountain Flakes joined SWE in 1993 as a charter member of her collegiate section at Louisiana Tech. She has served in various capacities in the local Houston Area Section, Region C, and nationally. Her hallmark is promoting the success and retention of women in STEM careers by advocating effective work/life integration policies and career-mapping solutions. Fountain Flakes is committed to seeing women achieve their potential and is active in her community, where she mentors young women and volunteers in recovery/re-entry programs to liberate women from domestic violence and abuse.

In her leisure time, as an elected member of the board of directors of Tri Unify, a national nonprofit organization for multisport athletes of color, Fountain Flakes is a champion of women's wellness and vitality through multisport activity. She enjoys international travel, endurance training, and marriage to her husband, Kenneth.
